Social connection and physical distancing during COVID-19: A qualitative study of palliative and end-of-life care nursing

COVID-19 is having wide-reaching impacts on palliative and end-of-life care nursing. What ethical issues do nurses experience as a result of COVID-19, and how do they navigate these issues? How do nurses interpret the impact of COVID-19 related visitor restrictions, and other physical distancing requirements, on their care of dying patients and families? What strategies are nurses implementing to help people to experience quality of life and relief from suffering, and to feel connected to their families and community during this time?

These are just some of the questions that this project seeks to answer. The overall purpose is to explore the perspectives and experiences of nurses who are providing palliative care during the pandemic. Eligible participants are any nurse currently providing care to patients with terminal illness in any Canadian setting.
